Productions in a Pandemic: Keeping Your Crew and Cast Safe

Updated: Jan 16, 2022

As we continue to return to our ventures and projects, we must be mindful of the new practices needed to ensure safety of all involved.

Here we have a list of protocols for use on all film/ video activities, sanctioned by the Department of Environmental Health. We ask that you save and exercise these protocols, because we are in this together!

1. During the period of COVID 19 it is preferable to create productions in controlled studio environments or enclosed spaces, as well as outside locations. The use of green screen is encouraged, if possible.

2. All persons should be scanned utilizing an infrared handheld temperature gun before entry. Those with an elevated temperature and/or visible flu symptoms should be documented and not be allowed to enter. Persons with a temperature of 37.50 For 990 F should not be allowed on set.

3. Small crews, casts and units should be used, with a limit of 20 persons on set. Extras should be kept to a minimum. Social distancing protocols must be observed at all times.

4. Creative camera and editing techniques should be emphasized. High-risk scenarios such as stunts should be avoided.

5. There should be a nurse or trained person on set every day to test the temperature of everyone involved on arrival. Anyone with a high temperature should be asked to leave the set.

6. At the start of each production the team should be made aware of the protocols required for each department for the duration of the shoot either in a written document or video format.

7. All equipment must be wiped or sanitized with the appropriate sanitizer before it is brought on set, at the start of every day of shooting. If equipment is rented from a rental house, the rental house must be required to sanitize it before it is

8. Dispensing units for sanitization must be placed in several locations and all personnel reminded to use them frequently. Adequate amounts of water for hand washing should also be made available.

9. Masks must be worn by all personnel on set except those in front of the camera. It is suggested that crew should be responsible for providing their own masks as long as these are of approved design.

10. Crew should be kept, as much as possible, within their own departments and not wander around the set. Sharing of tools should be discouraged - each department should have its own set of tools and work gloves.
