The BFVA SmartPhone Film Competition

Updated: Jun 8, 2022

The BFVA Inc. is hosting a Mobile Phone Film Competition. We are looking for quality narrative or documentary stories centered on the themes of renewal and transformation shot with smartphones inspired by one of the following themes: "In With the New" or "Things that make you go hmm". Sponsored by Caribbean Aerial Photography, entrants have a chance to win $500 for Adults or $250 for Youth.

MOBILE FILM COMPETITION DETAILS

  1. Entrants must be an active member of the BFVA for 2022. To activate or renew your membership for the year, please find the application form on the Membership Page Membership fees have been waived until further notice and only require you to fill out an application form.

  2. FILMS MUST BE SHOT BY MOBILE PHONE CAMERAS ONLY. Since mobile filmmaking has become an industry, you can find customized equipment online and stores if you need it. No apps or filmmaking accessories are required to qualify.

  3. ONE (1) ENTRY per person and/or entity will be selected regardless of the number of entries submitted. One prize per film regardless of the number of people credited.

  4. Length: 00:60 seconds (1 minute) to 05:00 minutes including credits.

  5. Video/Image/Talent releases must be submitted along with the film.

  6. FORMAT – We prefer (.mp4) (.mov) files. FULL QUALITY HD video in widescreen format (Horizontal). Files should also be named like the following: FILMTITLE_FILMMAKER_SPFC

  7. COPYRIGHTS - We cannot accept any THIRD-PARTY music, images & photos or graphics in your video without the correct licensing specific to your film. Licensing for music is tricky and can be confusing depending on how the music is used in your film. One license may not work for all the ways you use music in your film, such as background, transitions, etc. Music is not the only proprietary license you may need, such as visual branded items. It's best to be informed before you begin production.

  8. Youth entrants must be between the ages of 10 and 17 years, parents or guardians are asked to include their name and the name of the entrant they are submitting for on the application form. This category gives youth a platform to use their storytelling techniques and abilities. Capturing video with smartphones (all rules apply) is an incredible boost for confidence for the youngest members of society and the film community in general. Youth can use smartphone filmmaking to realize their potential and stand out as innovative filmmakers.

  9. No vulgar, offensive, pornographic, or nudity will be accepted and the submission will be disqualified.

Submissions are now closed.
