The Executive Board of the BFVA
Going Further Together
Working together in a shared vision in moving the industry forward towards creating and maintaining a sustainable sector is imperative. That cannot be achieved by one or by a few, but by the many working together towards that common goal. The Board of the BFVA is made up of nine (9) titled positions which are filled through an election process by which the members in good financial standing participate between the months of December and January.
The Board comprises:
1. President
Crafts a strategic plan for the Association. Ensure the organization's activities are compliant with and further its mission. Develop, implement, monitor, and assess the organization's programmes and their impact.
2. First Vice President
Provide support to the President in all duties, particularly in the implementation execution and monitoring of programmes. Head important committees such as the Advocacy and By-Law Review Committee and Festival Committee.
3. Second Vice President
Provide support to the President in all duties, particularly in the implementation execution and monitoring of programmes. Head important committees such as Membership and Outreach Committee and Public Relations Committee.
4. Public Relations Officer
Draft the company's public relations strategy for the year. Draft or review all public correspondence from the company and its directors and maintain a database of the contacts of all the local media houses. Promote BFVA activities such as workshops, the Visual Media Festival, etc. to the public using all available and approved methods of communication.
5. Membership Officer
Create an engagement plan for existing members. Send monthly correspondence to members on organizational activities and news and draft ways to attract new members and ensure that all opportunities presented to the board which may be beneficial to the members are communicated to them. Conduct research together with floor members to gauge, measure and monitor membership engagement.
6. Honorary Secretary
Take minutes at each board meeting, general meeting and other important meetings. Provide each member of the Board and members with a copy of all Board and general meetings minutes no later than one (1) week after the date of the meeting. Check company emails and draw them to the attention of the relevant board personnel. Set dates of Board meetings, prepare agendas for each meeting and circulate.
7. Treasurer
Ensure the company's finances comply with the BFVA's by-laws and all local laws. Arrange and keep records of all payments made to and from the BFVA accounts. Maintain a balance of payments, keep a ledger of all company assets and related values, and pay all bills and honor all financial commitments on the company's behalf.
8. Assistant Secretary-Treasurer
Assist the Secretary and Treasurer in their roles wherever required. Be delegated tasks/duties from both the Secretary and Treasurer. Eg. the Secretary may delegate the task of checking email to the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer.
9. Floor Members (3)
Represent the views of the wider membership in Board Meetings, update the membership on board decisions, collect feedback on such, and identify membership needs and present them to the membership officer.
